Program Highlights: The University at Albany CSTEP program is committed to providing students with the opportunities to discover, achieve, and excel in their chosen academic area. Our goal is to provide support to those students who are underrepresented in the STEM fields as well as those who are in pursuit of the licensed professions. The University at Albany CSTEP program takes on a holistic approach to working with our students from the beginning of their academic career at the university through ultimately graduation. We do this by providing academic and professional assistance which focus on the uniqueness of each student by providing support services such as supplemental academic advising, book loan program, writing lab assistance, mathematics lab assistance, free individualized tutoring, peer mentoring, study skills workshops, and time management assistance. Professionally we assist by providing career and personal counseling, access to internship expos, graduate school/ medical school fairs, Shadow Day experiences, as well as, information regarding advanced coursework entry exams (MCAT, GRE, LSAT, PCAT, DAT, etc.). Many of our students are also expose to research by applying for the University at Albany Summer Research Program and establishing a lasting relationship with faculty mentors that go beyond the summer program in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Nano science. We run an extremely competitive program for eight weeks where students are paired with a faculty mentor from a STEM discipline from across the University and Albany Community. Students also have an opportunity to present their research at the Annual Buffalo McNair Conference as well as on the University at Albany campus at the conclusion of the program.
