Program Highlights:
The Biomedical STEP program at the University at Buffalo's School of Medicine was established as a way to prepare historically underrepresented and/or disadvantaged high school students to compete for medical careers. Biomedical Step fosters many collaborations with area/regional high schools, professional organizations, community based organizations and universities in which to reach these students. Each year we enlist up to 35 high school students who express an interest in science, technology, and medical related professions as candidates for the Biomedical STEP program and team them with professionals and current medical students in their desired fields. This is done through mentoring, workshops, hands on experiences and tutoring in the STEM courses as a way to not only nurture their interests, but to ensure that each one of them is adequately prepared to enter and graduate from college in their desired field.
