Program Highlights:
The S.T.E.P. at New York Medical College offers supplementary education to assist students preparing for careers in science in the 21st century. That means ensuring that the foundational(NYS Regents)Math and Science courses taught by area high school teachers are enhanced by individual tutoring from 1st and 2nd Yr. medical students. We take advantage of the medical school environment to nurture the interests of our students who are thinking about medicine and health careers, through unique offerings such as shadowing activities like 'Follow a Med-student for a Day', and by inviting visiting medical professionals to talk about their specialties. We pay a great deal of attention to college advising, so along with the usual college tours we invite STEP alumni currently in college to visit and give students the most current information on college success-everything from Academic majors to Zero tolerance campus policies. Our Parent Association is very active, fundraising for the scholarship fund for seniors, supplying a nutritious breakfast every Saturday morning, and hosting parent development workshops with invited speakers on topics relevant to parenting students for excellence. We DO try to squeeze as much as possible in three and a half hours on Saturday!
