Program Highlights:
FMCC Step targets students in grades 7-12 belonging to groups underrepresented in the fields of math, science and technology. It consists of a weekly after school class at both the middle and high school levels. These classes stimulate interest in and exposure to these areas through specific lessons, guest speakers, and field trips. Emphasis is placed on academic areas, career opportunities, study skills and life skills. In addition at the high school level these areas are further supported by a weekly ( 3 hour ) Saturday Academy at Fulton-Montgomery Community College class. The high school program also offers college visits, SAT/ACT preparation, job shadowing, internships, up to .75 credit on the high school transcript, and attendance to the annual STEP State Conference. FMCC STEP participates in the Research Poster Presentation and the Science Bowl competitions. Collaboration with BOCES, TRIO Upward Bound and other regional STEP programs provide additional opportunities for lessons, field trips, etc. Tutoring is available through the Greater Amsterdam School District and the TRIO Upward Bound Program.
